Huawei’s German Research Center is responsible for advanced technical research, architecture evolution design and strategic technical planning.
Optical Communication and Application Technology Laboratory in Jena focuses on optical telecommunication use cases (optical subsystems for switches, optical wireless), automotive (AR-HUD, headlamp design, displays), illumination, industrial lasers, optical metrology, optical coating design and other optical subsystems. The department engages in local research and collaborates with academic and industrial partners from the European ecosystem.
Senior Principal Optical Design Researcher (m/f/d)
Responsibilities
- Perform research and development in the field of optical technologies, optical systems and architectures
- Go from the analysis of the application requirements, through research and pre-development, up to proof of concept and prototyping
- Team leadership and system architecture design
- Collaboration with colleagues from other departments, build partnerships with key industry and academia
- Participate in academic conferences, publish and present latest research achievements in leading conferences (SPIE, OSA) and high-quality journals
Requirements
- Ph.D. in optical engineering, physics, or related fields
- Proven experience in designing optical systems for imaging, illumination, and/or VR/AR display applications
- Experience in head-up display (automotive) or wavelength selective switch (telecom) design
- Experience with team leadership and project management
- Proficiency with optical design and simulation software: Zemax, CodeV, Oslo, etc.
- Strong theoretical knowledge in geometrical, diffractive and physical optics
- Pronounced analytical and conceptual working skills and systematic and goal-oriented work approach
- Fluent in English (written and oral) and open to work in a team with multiple cultural backgrounds collaboration
