The Advanced Wireless Technologies Lab (AWTL) is responsible for research activities towards the definition and development of mobile network technologies and communication systems for vertical industries. AWTL has been engaging with multiple research and standardization activities, including participating to European Commission funded research projects of Horizon 2020 framework, contributing to industrial communication fora as 5G-AA, 5G-ACIA, transferring technologies to standardization bodies like 3GPP, ETSI, GSMA, NGMN, and developing in-house experimental platforms, prototypes and proof of concepts on wireless and networking technologies. Recently, AWTL focus has shifted to next generation (6G) wireless networks and technologies, towards 2030.

The PhD candidate will contribute to the research and development of novel schemes which enable integration of sensing and communications solutions for 6G networks and in particular will explore innovative AI techniques for sensing/localization. The candidate has the opportunity to work on real world problems and improve Huawei future’s products and services.
Supervision: Decisions are made upon admission.
Your areas of expertise
We expect the candidate to be enthusiastic, highly motivated and passionate about wireless communications, sensing and localization. Your area of work will consist of:
- Developing new innovative techniques for 6G integration sensing and communications for a variety of different scenarios.
- Conducting in-depth analysis and simulations on selected issues including, advanced AI techniques, distributed and cooperative sensing, object localization and recognition.
- Stay up to date with the current state of the art techniques related to your topic.
- Publishing research papers and technical reports at high ranked scientific conferences.
- Contribute to future related EU and national funded research projects.
