Dataspaces Research Engineer [Java + Kubernetes] - Leased Labor/Fixed-term

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Backend Developer to join our dynamic research and development team in Munich. This role is critical in developing and implementing innovative solutions in the field of data governance and data transfer domain leveraging cloud architectures and capabilities – we frame it Dataspaces. As a member of our team, you will play a key role in disrupting the way data is shared between companies on an international level. Designing and implementing perfectly tailored services for our customers allows for creatively solving problems and continuously improving. Dataspaces Research Engineer [Java + Kubernetes] - Leased Labor (17 months)/Fixed-term (2 years) (m/f/d)
Your mission
- Develop and maintain secure, robust, and scalable components in Java based on the Eclipse Dataspace Components (EDC) Framework to provide modular services for building Dataspaces and trusted data sharing at scale.
- Develop and maintain modules for a set of Huawei Cloud services (e.g. storage, identity, observability) to be integrated into our Dataspace stack and make them usable for our customers
- Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines to automate testing, build, and deployment processes, ensuring high-quality code deployment with minimal manual intervention.
- Contribute back to open source and specification projects for dataspaces to ensure interoperability and compatibility between solutions and support growth of the ecosystem
- Work closely with the R&D team, stakeholders, and external partners to identify requirements, innovate solutions, and continuously improve the development practices and tools for better integration with the Dataspace ecosystem.
Your areas of expertise
- Master Degree in computer science or a comparable qualification.
- Experience as a software engineer, e.g. through internships, ideally in the cloud-native area.
- Advanced experience in Java version 17 or later, Gradle, OpenAPI and CI/CD with either Git[hub | lab].
- Advanced experience in Kubernetes, Helm, Docker and creating CI/CD pipelines with either Git[hub | lab].
- Experience with modern frameworks and libraries, particularly for the Java ecosystem (e.g., data transfer, identity and credential management).
- Sound knowledge of modern application development and architecture in cloud-native environments.
- An independent, practical, and solution-oriented way of working in the context of agile development methodologies.
- Initial knowledge of Dataspace concepts (e.g. International Data Spaces Association) is an advantage but not a prerequisite
