Chief Expert - Advanced LCOS Design and Display Technology (m/f/d)
Our cutting-edge automotive display applications in next-generation imaging systems and advanced projection light engines impose extremely challenging requirements on Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCOS) Spatial Light Modulators. We are looking for an Advanced LCOS Design and Display Technology Expert to strengthen our efforts in achieving a breakthrough in LCOS display for these critical fields.
Your mission
Drive Performance Breakthroughs: Aim to achieve breakthroughs in electro-optical performance of LCOS devices through innovation. This includes applying novel LC modes, alignment techniques, cell architectures, and materials to enhance critical metrics for imaging, display, and projection applications, such as switching speed, contrast ratio, diffraction efficiency, and phase stability. This encompasses the theoretical and prototyping phases, including modeling, design, and overseeing the fabrication of LCOS devices specifically optimized for use in projector light engines and other advanced optical systems
Novel LCOS Display System Development: Create novel ideas and spearhead the development about next-generation LCOS display technologies from concept to realization. E2E architect and model the new LCOS display system, including illumination and projection optics, with the features of ultra-high efficiency and high image quality.
Collaborative R&D: Work closely with internal and external resources, including optical, electrical, and process engineers, physicists, and chemists, as well as fabrication partners worldwide, to achieve the ultimate project goals.
Academic Partnership Management: Manage and drive cooperation projects with academic partners on topics related to liquid crystal technology and its applications in display and imaging.
Knowledge Dissemination: Publish and protect key innovations by authoring patent applications.
Your areas of expertise
A Master or PhD degree in a relevant field (e.g., Optoelectronics, Optics, Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering).
Proven experience in the design, implementation, and characterization of liquid crystal-based devices is essential. Direct experience with LCOS technology for projection or imaging applications is a significant advantage.
Knowledge of optical systems, particularly related to projector light engines, imaging optics, or diffractive devices (including subwavelength gratings and metasurfaces), is highly desirable.
Proficiency in electro-magnetic computation methods (e.g., FDTD, RCWA) for modeling light interaction with micro-structured elements is beneficial for this position.
Expertise in various types of liquid crystal materials, particularly high birefringent LCs for fast-switching and phase modulation applications, would be appreciated.
We welcome strong software skills, including programming languages like Python, or C++, as well as experience with specialized tools such as FEM or FDTD based simulation software.
Willingness and availability to business travel (approximately 20% of the time)
