The Power Conversion Technology Laboratory within the Huawei Ohm Research Center (Nuremberg) is responsible for Advanced Digital Power Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design and Strategic Technology Planning, and plays an important role in the Huawei Digital Power business in the design and development of power converters and control systems for applications such as PV Solar & Battery Energy Storage Field, Data Centers, Electric Vehicle, and Embedded Power Supply.

Your mission
1 Your Mission
Technology Development in Converter based Grids: Drive the advancement and deployment of cutting-edge technologies, particularly in STATCOM, FACTs, medium voltage direct current (MVDC) systems or Solid-State Transformers (SST), to drive the transition toward modern, resilient power grids. Focus on integrating these technologies with renewable energy sources to enhance grid efficiency, stability, and sustainability.
Grid Modernization & Renewable Integration: Spearhead the integration of renewable energy sources like photovoltaics and energy storage into DC and AC grids, ensuring seamless, high-efficiency power transfer while maintaining grid resilience. Develop scalable solutions for next-generation grid architectures that support the clean energy transition.
Driving Industry Standards & Innovation: Play an active role in industry working groups, standardization committees, and regulatory bodies (e.g., IEEE, IEC, CIGRE, VDE…) to influence the technical frameworks and standards that govern MVDC and SST technologies. Contribute to shaping the future of energy systems and the adoption of new power technologies.
Grid Resilience & Stability: Ensure the development of power systems that prioritize grid resilience, capable of withstanding disruptions and adapting to the challenges posed by the increasing integration of renewable energy sources.
Your areas of expertise (one or more)
Advanced Knowledge of Converter dominated grids: Proven expertise in the development and integration of medium voltage direct current (MVDC) systems or Solid-State Transformers (SST). Deep understanding of the technical challenges and opportunities these technologies offer in the context of renewable energy integration and grid modernization.
Power Systems & Renewable Integration: Experience in integrating renewable energy sources such as photovoltaics, wind energy, storage or Data Centers infrastructure into power systems. Strong grasp of power system dynamics and the ability to design and implement solutions that support grid stability and flexibility.
Power Electronics & Inverter Systems: Hands-on experience in the development and control of high power inverter systems (including grid-forming inverters) at industry leading companies is strong advantage.
Grid Resilience: Understanding grid resilience, with the ability to develop systems that maintain reliability and stability even in the face of disruptions.
Standardization & Regulatory Involvement: Active participation in relevant industry working groups or standardization committees (e.g., IEEE, IEC, CIGRE, VDE…). Ability to contribute to the development of technical standards and frameworks for next-generation power systems.
Project Execution & Problem Solving: Ability to identify customer pain points and deliver innovative, scalable solutions. Ability to solve complex technical challenges while balancing feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and performance.
Collaboration & Communication: Structured, creative, and initiative-driven approach to problem-solving, paired with excellent teamwork and communication skills. Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong command of written and spoken English (working language), facilitating effective communication in an international, cross-functional environment. Knowledge of German is a plus, though not required.
