Huawei Ohm Research Center (Nuremberg) is responsible for Advanced Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design and Strategic Technology Planning.
The Power Conversion Technology Laboratory within Huawei’s Ohms Research Center in Nuremberg is responsible for Advanced Digital Power Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design and Strategic Technology Planning, and plays an important role in the Huawei Digital Power business in the design and development of power converters and control systems for applications such as PV Solar & Battery Energy Storage Field, Data Centers, Electric Vehicle, and Embedded Power Supply.

Principal Engineer - MVDC Circuit Breaker (m/f/d)
Your mission
Design & Development of MV Circuit Breakers: Design, simulate, and test medium-voltage (MV) circuit breakers, including vacuum, solid-state (SSCB), and hybrid technologies, ensuring compliance with IEC standards. Innovate and pioneer ultrafast MVDC circuit breakers for next-generation power systems.
Advanceduator Optimization: Design, model, and optimize Thomson coil actuators to meet performance and reliability requirements.
Testing & Prototyping: Establish MV/MVDC test circuits, assemble prototypes, and conduct high-voltage lab experiments under stringent safety protocols. Validate performance through simulation and empirical testing.
Research Leadership & Collaboration: Lead joint research initiatives with European universities and institutions in specialized domains (e.g., smart grids, fault protection, advanced switching technologies). Publish findings in high-impact journals and contribute to patents/IP development.
Compliance & Innovation: Ensure adherence to IEC/IEEE standards while driving novel concepts in MVDC interruption and fault mitigation
Your areas of expertise
Knowledge of hybrid circuit breakers, ultra-fast protection schemes, AI-driven fault detection, MVDC breakers, DER integration (PV/BESS), and innovative interrupter technologies.
Strong background in electromagnetic and thermal modeling for high-power applications.
Strong publication record or collaboration with research institutions in MV protection technologies.
5+ years of hands-on experience in MV/HVDC protection, including circuit breaker design, fault analysis, and interruption technologies.
Experience with real-time simulation or FPGA-based control systems.
Experience with vacuum or gaseous circuit breakers is advantageous,
Experience in MV breaker development initiatives, innovation and technical leadership.
