The Power Conversion Technology Laboratory within the Huawei's Ohm Research Center (Nuremberg) is responsible for Advanced Digital Power Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design and Strategic Technology Planning, and plays an important role in the Huawei Digital Power business in the design and development of power converters and control systems for applications such as PV Solar & Battery Energy Storage Field, Data Centers, Electric Vehicle, and Embedded Power Supply.
We are looking for a motivated student who will combine knowledge of lithium-ion battery electrochemistry and battery electrical energy storage systems (BESS) with analytics and modeling. Our team strives to develop novel approaches and algorithms, to improve the safety, performance, lifetime and economic value of BESS, ensure their safe and reliable deployment within the European energy sector, and finally contribute to the European energy transition. The student will work broadly with different stakeholders within and outside Huawei and drive innovation of our battery intelligence team.

Your mission
Support the development of SOX (SOC, SOH, etc.) estimation algorithms for LFP-based BESS
Support the testing and validation of SOX algorithm from MIL to HIL
Support the analysis of large-scale BMS field data to identify degradation signatures, sensor anomalies, and operational outliers across deployed fleets
Perform quantitative analysis to investigate the impact of cell-level and system-level parameters on state estimation accuracy and battery lifetime
Your areas of expertise
Currently enrolled in a MSc or PhD Program in quantitative disciplines, such as battery technology, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, physics, computer science, or similar
Strong knowledge of lithium-ion battery electrochemistry and degradation mechanisms, ideally with hands-on experience on LFP cells
Experience with battery state estimation algorithms (e.g., Coulomb counting, OCV-based methods, Kalman filters, equivalent circuit models) applied to battery management systems
Knowledge in the domains of state estimation, battery modeling, data-driven modelling is a plus
Proficient in any programming language is a plus (Python, Matlab, C++, C, etc.)
Experience with BMS algorithm testing is a plus
Fluent in written and spoken English language. Working knowledge of Chinese and German is a plus
