Intern - Machine Learning for Wireless Communications
Huawei Heisenberg Research Center (Munich) is responsible for advanced technology research, architectural development, design and strategic engineering of our products.
The Advanced Wireless Technologies Lab (AWTL) is responsible for research activities towards the definition and development of mobile network technologies and communication systems for vertical industries. AWTL has been engaging with multiple research and standardization activities, including participating to European Commission funded research projects of Horizon 2020 framework, contributing to industrial communication fora as 5G-AA, 5G-ACIA, transferring technologies to standardization bodies like 3GPP, ETSI, GSMA, NGMN, and developing in-house experimental platforms, prototypes and proof of concepts on wireless and networking technologies. Recently, AWTL focus has shifted to next generation (6G) wireless networks and technologies, towards 2030.

Intern - Machine Learning for Wireless Communications (m/f/d)
Your mission
Conduct advanced research on AI/ML for 6G wireless systems, developing solutions for channel state information prediction and reporting
Investigate state-of-the-art approaches — including generative models, sequence-based models, and continual learning applied to 6G communication systems
Build and improve simulation environments for AI-enabled wireless communication systems to enable realistic performance evaluation
Publish high-quality research papers in top-tier scientific journals and conferences
Your areas of expertise
Enrolled in Master’s or PhD program in Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field
Theoretical and practical knowledge of Machine Learning, particularly deep learning techniques (e.g., CNNs, transformers, diffusion models); experience with their application to communication systems is a plus
Solid knowledge of wireless communications (especially channel estimation, massive MIMO). Experience in modelling and evaluation of wireless systems through link/system-level simulations is a plus
Experience with Python and machine learning libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Fluency in English (both spoken and written)
