The Power Conversion Technology Laboratory within Huawei’s Ohms Research Center in Nuremberg is responsible for Advanced Digital Power Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design and Strategic Technology Planning, and plays an important role in the Huawei Digital Power business in the design and development of power converters and control systems for applications such as PV Solar & Battery Energy Storage Field, Data Centers, Electric Vehicle, and Embedded Power Supply.

Principal R&D Engineer – Power Electronics for Solar PV / BESS (m/f/d)
Your mission
Proactively engage with internal and external stakeholders to identify and refine technical requirements in key products in the domains in Digital Power Business
Active participation in technology roadmap development in your technical domain for next generation products in Digital Power products such as in PV Solar & Battery Energy Storage solutions (BESS)
Lead and execute the research and development of novel Power Conversion architecture and converter topologies for future Solar PV & BESS applications
Lead and execute the parameter design, component layout, prototype build-up and subsequent verification and validation of novel converter concepts in the R&D laboratories
Technical lead research projects related to Solar PV & BESS domain
Generate novel ideas and protect them with IPR fillings
Mentor less experienced staff members
Your areas of expertise
Essential: Master of Science (MSc.) or PhD in the field of power electronics, in electrical and electronic engineering or power engineering plus relevant work experience after the university degree
Extensive theoretical understanding of basic power electronic converter principles, magnetic component designs, power semiconductor devices and power converter control
Successful industrial experiences in the product development and product release are desirable
Proven hand-on experiences on power converter prototype building and verification
Proven capability for analysis, simulation, design & verification of key components and subsystems in power converter technologies, such as power loss analysis, semiconductor selection, magnetic component design, PCB design, EMC, modulation techniques etc.
High level of self-reliance and an autonomous target-oriented work style, “can do” attitude, eager to learn new things and ready to think outside the box
Occasional travel related to ongoing projects
Fluent in written and spoken English, willingness to learn German, additional languages are a plus
Good working knowledge in one or some of these software tools can be advantageous: MatLab, Simulink, PLECS, Python
