Senior Research Engineer - Privacy Enhancing Technologies (m/f/d)

Your mission

· Identify state-of-the-art solutions for Privacy and Data Protection using Privacy Enhancing Technologies to enhance the transparency and control of users over their personal data.

· Evaluate privacy risks of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC), develop privacy-preserving AI solutions, implement AI agents to autonomously manage privacy settings, mitigate data leaks, and ensure compliance with global regulations.

· Design, develop, (empirically) evaluate, and optimize proofs of concepts and software prototypes of related technologies for Huawei products.

· Improve state-of-the-art solutions and participate in the transfer of theoretic research concepts into cutting edge technologies for future Huawei products.

· Study Privacy Engineering and Privacy-by-Design methodologies to improve the Huawei product development process.

· Work together with other teams and communicate results in conferences, workshops, and journals.

Your areas of expertise

· 2+ years of experience in research and development of Privacy Enhancing Technologies (e.g. Differential Privacy, Anonymization, Federated Learning, Cryptography etc.) or a PhD in this field.

· Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Electrical Engineering, or other related disciplines.

· Demonstrated skills of programming in Python, Java or other high-level languages.

· Knowledge or experience with Machine Learning/AI, as well as hands-on experience in developing, fine-tuning, or deploying Large Language Models (LLMs) for a variety of applications, including NLP tasks, content generation, and privacy-preserving AI solutions.

· Knowledge or experience with AI agents, RAG, planning in agentic workflows, efficient on-device LLMs, is a plus.

· A strong publication record is a plus.

· Knowledge and experience with mobile application security and privacy permission management is a plus.

· Fluent written and spoken English.
