Recruitment Privacy Notice for Huawei Research Centers in Germany and Austria
Dear Candidates,
This Privacy Notice gives you information about the Personal Data we collect about you in relation to your application for employment with Huawei and how and why we use that Personal Data in the course of our recruitment processes. "Personal Data" refers to any information that can be used to identify an individual, either on its own or when combined with other pieces of information.
Personal Data you provide in the application form, including those contained within the resume and CV you upload, or that is otherwise collected as part of recruitment, will be processed by a relevant Huawei entity responsible for the vacancy you apply for. Please refer to the list here-below for all legal details of the relevant entity (Controller) conducting the recruitment based on the country location of the vacancy that you apply for:

Huawei Technologies Duesseldorf GmbH and Huawei Technologies Austria GmbH (hereinafter “Huawei”, “we”, “us” and “our”) understand how important your privacy is to you and are fully committed to protecting your Personal Data worldwide in accordance with all applicable data protection laws and regulations.
The provision of the Personal Data is necessary in order to process your job application. If you do not provide your Personal Data, it will be impossible to process your application.
Please read carefully and fully understand the Huawei Recruitment Privacy Notice (the "Notice") before providing your Personal Data to us.
Capitalized terms used in this Notice without definition shall have the same meanings assigned to them by the EU General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”).
By applying for a vacancy or submitting your job application, you acknowledge that you have read and understood the following terms and conditions. The Notice explains:

2. Categories of Personal Data we process and their sources
2.1 In connection with your application, we may process the following categories of Personal Data:
Identity data (e.g., our first name and last name, date of birth)
- Contact details (e.g., telephone number, home address, email address)
- Professional and educational information (e.g., CV, employment history, qualifications, skills, certifications)
- Application and assessment data (e.g., interview notes, assessment results, and recruiter evaluations)
- Communication data (e.g., correspondence with you regarding your application)
- Account information for recruitment purposes: (e.g., your user name/ user ID, e-mail address, phone number, and other information associated with your Huawei account)
- Other application-related data (e.g. information about disabilities, if and to the extent that it is relevant for the advertised vacancy, data required under national immigration laws, such as passport or national ID, residency or work permit)
- Financial information (e.g., bank account details required for reimbursement of travel expenses for job interviews)
- Audio and visual information (e.g. video and audio data collected during video interviews)
- Additional information (e.g. any information you voluntarily choose to share with us in the course of the recruitment process, such as profile photographs or your hobbies)
Technical and usage data (e.g. device information, log data, and online identifiers such as cookies, web beacons, and pixel tags used when you access our careers website or candidate portal)
Please do not provide Special Categories of Personal Data (such as information relating to racial or ethnic origin, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, health, biometric or genetic data), unless such information is specifically requested by us as part of the recruitment process (for example, where disability-related accommodations are required). Where such data is provided or collected, we will process it in accordance with applicable data protection laws and the principles described in this Notice.
2.2 We collect Personal Data from the following sources:
2.2.1 Data you provide to us:
The data you provide to us directly include all data contained in your CV or resume, as well as any other Personal Data you submit to us for the purpose of recruitment. This information may also include video recordings of interviews.
2.2.2 Data collected automatically:
We may collect technical and usage data when you use our careers website or candidate portal, including device information, IP addresses, cookies, web beacons, and pixel tags. This data helps ensure platform functionality, manage your application session, and, where applicable and with consent, improve the recruitment process.
2.2.3 Data from third parties:
We may obtain data about you from publicly and commercially available sources as permitted by law. We may also collect Personal Data about you through professional social networks such as LinkedIn or Xing. Candidate’s Personal Data may also be obtained from recruitment agencies or headhunting firms or from other Huawei employees or workers who recommend people they know for employment with Huawei.
3. Purposes for which we process your Personal Data
We collect and use your Personal Data for the purpose of recruitment, including:
- Identifying and contacting potential candidates;
- Evaluating candidates for potential employment by assessing the competency and suitability of candidates applying for employment with Huawei;
- Keeping records related to recruitment;
- Making hiring decisions on whether or not to offer employment to any particular candidate;
- Deciding the terms and conditions of any job offer;
- Reimbursing candidates for travel expenses for job interviews;
- Conducting video interviews and processing audio-visual information to assess candidates’ suitability for the position, manage the recruitment process;
- Having evidence in case a legal claim is pursued by any candidate;
- Complying with legal or regulatory requirements;
- Processing data for statistical purposes;
- Maintaining a talent pool in order to contact potential candidates who have given their separate consent for future job openings, even if an actual application was unsuccessful.
4. The legal basis we rely on to process your Personal Data
4.1 We process the Personal Data of candidates for the purpose of the employment relationship, in particular for the decision on the establishment of the employment relationship (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). It is also in Huawei's legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) to process the Personal Data in order to ensure that the best suited candidate with the required skills, qualifications and experience is offered employment and to fulfill precontractual obligations.
4.2 Where we process Special Categories of Personal Data provided by you (e.g., information concerning disabilities), such processing by Huawei Technologies Duesseldorf GmbH is based, on Section 26(3) BDSG in conjunction with Art. 9(2)(b) and Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR and, by Huawei Technologies Austria GmbH, on Section 29 DSG in conjunction with Art. 9(2)(b) and Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
4.3 Where we process Personal Data for the purpose of complying with legal or tax requirements (such as in connection with reimbursement of travel expenses), this is based on Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR.
4.4 The processing of Personal Data is further based on our legitimate interest according to Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR, in particular for the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims.
4.5 The processing for statistical purposes is based on Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR in conjunction with Art. 89 GDPR in connection with the specific safeguards and derogations in accordance with the GDPR.
4.6 Processing candidates’ Personal Data in Huawei's talent pool with regard to future job openings even if an actual application was unsuccessful will be based on the candidate's separate consent (Art. 6 (1)(a) GDPR).
5. How we use cookies and similar technologies
5.1 Cookies
If you apply through our careers website or use our candidate portal, we may place a small data file known as a cookie on your computer or mobile device to ensure that our website functions properly.
A cookie is a text file stored by your device by your browser. They enable the website to recognize your device and store information such as your application progress, session status, language preferences, or other settings that support the functionality of the recruitment process.
We use the following categories of cookies:
- Strictly necessary cookies: These cookies are required for the operation of the candidate portal and application process (e.g. login authentication, session management, form completion). These cookies cannot be disabled as the website would not function properly without them.
- Functional cookies: These cookies enable enhanced functionality and personalization, such as remembering language preferences or previously entered information.
- Analytics cookies (if applicable and subject to consent): These cookies help us understand how candidates use our careers website, such as which pages are most frequently visited and how users navigate the application process. This allows us to improve the usability of our recruitment platform.
Where required by applicable law, analytics cookies will only be used with your consent, which you may withdraw at any time.
The legal basis for strictly necessary cookies is our legitimate interest in providing a secure and functional recruitment platform (Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR). Where consent is required (Art. 6 (1)(a) GDPR), processing is based on your consent.

5.2 Web Beacons and Pixel Tags
We may use web beacons and pixel tags in recruitment-related communications, such as emails sent to applicants.
A web beacon is a small transparent image embedded in an email or web page. Pixel tags allow us to determine whether an email has been opened or whether links within the email have been clicked.
Where required by applicable law, the use of such technologies for analytics or tracking purposes will be based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you may withdraw at any time by unsubscribing or adjusting your communication preferences.
5.3 Do Not Track
Some web browsers have a “Do Not Track” feature, that signals a request not to be tracked by websites. There is currently no industry standard governing how websites should respond to such signals. However, where technically feasible, Huawei endeavors to respect “Do Not Track” settings enabled in your browser.
6. How your Personal Data is shared
6.1 Huawei is a world-wide group of companies, which operates not necessarily along the borders of legal entities and countries, but according to functions which may exist across various group companies and countries. For administrative, personnel and management purposes your Personal Data may be shared with our ultimate parent company, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. Administrative Building, Bantian, Longgang District, Shenzhen, 518129, P.R. China. In such case, Huawei will ensure the adequate level of protection of your Personal Data with appropriate safeguards by using standard contractual model clauses issued by the European Commission in accordance with Art. 46(2) GDPR. Further information about the appropriate safeguards may be obtained from Huawei’s Data Protection Office, whose contact details are indicated in section 1. Please also refer to section 12 for more information on international data transfer. Your Personal Data may be further shared with the selected suppliers, such as temporary employment agencies for your contract as well as with professional advisors such as tax consultants.
6.2 Recruitment team members, hiring managers, and other employees within Huawei involved in the recruitment and selection process, as well as external personnel (e.g., consultants or agency staff working under Huawei’s direction) involved in these activities, may have access to your Personal Data where necessary for recruitment, selection, and the general HR management of the successful candidate.
6.3 Recruitment agencies and headhunter firms involved in the recruitment process may receive feedback from Huawei regarding the suitability of candidates they have recommended, as well as the outcome of the recruitment process and, where applicable, the terms of any employment offer. This processing is based on Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, insofar as it is necessary to take steps prior to entering into an employment contract, and on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, based on Huawei’s legitimate interest in managing and improving the recruitment process.
7. How you can exercise your data subject rights
You should ensure that all Personal Data you submit is accurate and complete. If you are unable to provide accurate and complete information for any reason or are unwilling to submit the Personal Data required for a specific position, our recruitment department may be unable to deem you fit for a specific job.
In accordance with applicable laws and policies, and regardless of the above tools and mechanism for managing your Personal Data, you have the following rights:
Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR)
You can request a confirmation as to whether or not Personal Data about you is processed and you can, where applicable, receive a copy of Personal Data we process about you.
Right of portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
You can receive certain data that you have provided to us in a machine-readable format under certain requirements.
Right of erasure ('right to be forgotten') (Art. 17 GDPR)
You can have your data erased under certain conditions.
Right of rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)
You can have your inaccurate data corrected and incomplete data completed.
Withdraw consent (Art. (3) GDPR)
You can withdraw a consent to the processing of Personal Data you have given us.
Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR)
You can object to processing of your data to certain purposes such as direct marketing.
Right to restrict processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
You can require us to restrict processing of your Personal Data under certain conditions.
Right to lodge a complaint (Art. 77 GDPR)
If you think that the way we process your Personal Data does not comply with applicable data protection laws, you may file a complaint with the competent supervisory authority. We may decline to process or limit certain requests under certain circumstances, e. g. if they are manifestly unfounded or excessive or if they adversely affect the rights and freedoms of others.
8. Whether we use automated decision-making, including profiling
We do not carry out automated decision-making including profiling in accordance with Art. 22 GDPR in connection with the Personal Data concerning you.
9. How we protect your Personal Data
We aim to take all reasonable organizational and technical measures to protect your Personal Data from unauthorized access, disclosure, use, modification, damage or loss. We will continue improving these measures to protect the security of your Personal Data. For example, we use encryptions to ensure data confidentiality; we use trusted protection mechanisms to protect data from malicious attacks; we deploy access control mechanisms to ensure only authorized personnel can access Personal Data; and we raise awareness among employees about the importance of protecting Personal Data through security and privacy protection training sessions.
10. How long we retain your Personal Data
Unless otherwise required or permitted by laws and regulations, we endeavor not to retain your Personal Data for longer than it takes to complete the recruitment process. If you are hired, your Personal Data will be stored in our internal systems as necessary throughout the performance of your employment relationship, and you will be informed in a separate privacy notice about the specifics on how we process Personal Data of our employees. If you are not hired, your Personal Data will be retained for 6 months after the end of the recruitment process.
At the end of an unsuccessful application process Huawei may reach out to candidates to obtain their consent to remain in our global Huawei talent pool. If you gave your consent to add you to our talent pool, your Personal Data will be retained for 6 months upon your addition to the talent pool. If the consent is not actively given, the Personal Data will no longer be retained, unless otherwise required or permitted by laws and regulations.
We may further retain your Personal Data for the duration of the statutory limitation period, insofar as this is necessary for the defense against possible legal claims.
11. Where your Personal Data is stored
Your Personal Data is stored on the servers of our recruitment service provider Teamtailor located in the European Economic Area.
12. How your Personal Data is transferred internationally
As described above under section 6 we may disclose your Personal Data to other recipients, and these recipients not only process your Personal Data inside the European Economic Area ("EEA") but also outside the EEA. These recipients outside the EEA may have different or no data protection laws. If your Personal Data are processed by us or the aforementioned outside the EEA (so-called third countries), we have taken suitable measures to ensure that in the event that your Personal Data is transmitted to third countries and processed by the respective recipient an appropriate level of data protection is guaranteed, in particular by adopting the standard data protection clauses adopted by the European Commission.
